CASE STUDY

Marks & Spencer – NaRec, Port of Blyth

Client: Shepherd Construction (for One North East)
Sub-Contract Value: £550k

Moorhead Excavations Ltd undertook a Site Preparation contract for Shepherd Construction at the NAREC Site, Blyth Docks.

The site was to be developed from a derelict brownfield expanse of backfilled dry docks into a new offshore Wind Farm Blade Testing Facility.

Moorhead Excavations removed surface Asbestos Cement Debris prior to breaking out & crushing the existing slabbing and underlying dock walls for re-use as a Secondary Aggregate within the new build.

Made Ground deposits were removed from site during a subsequent site levelling exercise with varying degrees of contamination.

On completion of the excavation, the clean crushed materials were re-laid as a site capping and piling platform.

Contamination Included:

• Non-Hazardous Heavy Metals

• Hazardous Hydrocarbon impacted soil hot spots

• Asbestos Insulation-contaminated soils (under controlled conditions).
